Nearly thirty years ago, Matt Ryan of Philadelphia and Ann Marie Ryan of Baltimore met in Avalon, where they both spent their summers. For the Ryans, as for countless other families, Avalon is recognized as a place that brings people together.

The Ryans decided to join forces professionally by establishing a commercial real estate development company. With an emphasis on client relationships and an unwavering commitment to quality, Matt emerged as a leader in Baltimore real estate development. Meanwhile, Ann Marie co-founded one of Baltimore’s only female-owned and operated real estate management companies.

In 2008, the Ryans decided to build a new home in Avalon. They wanted a space where utility and design would coexist to best serve the needs of their busy family. During the planning and building processes, the Ryans assessed local building practices, toured other homes to evaluate residential layouts, and examined the structural and aesthetic supplies being commonly used. Matt and Ann Marie also engaged friends and neighbors in conversations about residential development in Avalon. These conversations, paired with their research and personal experience of building a home on the island, led the Ryans to a simple conclusion: Avalon residents deserve better homes, and we can provide them. This conclusion became a mandate, and Ryan Development Group was born.
